Beneficiary

The person or entity you name to receive the death benefit. A primary beneficiary is first in line; a contingent beneficiary receives the proceeds if the primary cannot.

Death Benefit

The tax-free lump sum paid to your beneficiary when you die. Also called the face amount — it is the core reason most families buy life insurance.

Living Benefits

Riders that let you access part of your death benefit while still alive if you are diagnosed with a terminal, chronic, or critical illness. Many policies include these at no extra cost.

Rate Class

The health and lifestyle category an underwriter assigns you — Preferred Plus, Preferred, Standard, or Substandard. Your rate class directly determines your premium.

Underwriting

The process an insurance company uses to evaluate your application — reviewing your age, health history, lifestyle, and family history — to decide whether to offer coverage and at what rate.

Explore Term Life Insurance

The most straightforward type of coverage. You pay a fixed premium for a set term (10, 20, or 30 years), and your beneficiaries receive a death benefit if you pass away during that period. Affordable and simple — ideal for income replacement and mortgage protection.

Mortgage Protection

Mortgage protection uses life insurance to help your family remain in their home if you pass away. The benefit can help pay off or reduce the mortgage and may also provide funds for other household expenses. Coverage can be customized based on your mortgage balance, budget, and family's needs.

Whole Life Insurance

Permanent coverage that lasts your entire life. Premiums are fixed, and the policy builds cash value over time that you can borrow against. More expensive than term, but provides lifelong protection and a savings component.

Indexed Universal Life (IUL)

A flexible permanent policy that ties cash value growth to a stock market index (like the S&P 500) — with a floor that protects against losses. Popular for tax-free retirement income strategies.

Living Benefits Riders

Modern policies can include riders that allow you to access your death benefit early if you're diagnosed with a critical, chronic, or terminal illness. This is one of the most valuable — and least known — features in today's market.

Final Expense Insurance

A smaller whole life policy designed to cover end-of-life costs: funeral expenses, medical bills, and other final debts. Easy to qualify for, even with health issues.

Annuities and Retirement Income

An annuity is a financial product designed to help turn part of your savings into a dependable stream of retirement income. Depending on the type selected, an annuity may offer tax-deferred growth, protection from market losses, lifetime-income options, or benefits for your beneficiaries. Because features, fees, limitations, and surrender periods vary, the right option should be selected based on your goals, timeline, and financial situation.

How Much Do You Need? Use the DIME Method

The DIME method is a simple formula for calculating your life insurance needs: Debt + Income (years until retirement) + Mortgage balance + Education costs for your children. Download our DIME Sheet below to calculate your number.
